ADR 1.1.3.6 Load Points: What the Calculator Actually Does

9 August 2026 · ADR Driver Pro Team

The ADR 1.1.3.6 calculation is often described as a “1,000-point rule”, but a useful calculator needs to make its limits as visible as its arithmetic. ADR Driver Pro’s calculator is intentionally narrow: it totals declared transport categories for goods that may be carried in packages.

The multipliers used

For each entered quantity, the calculator applies the multiplier associated with the transport category:

Transport category Multiplier used by the calculator
0 No multiplier—the exemption is unavailable
1 50
1 special subset 20
2 3
3 1
4 0

The points from eligible rows are added together. A result above 1,000 exceeds the threshold; a result of exactly 1,000 does not.

For example, 19 units in general Transport Category 1 produce 950 points. Twenty produce exactly 1,000. Twenty-one produce 1,050.

Why Category 0 blocks the result

Transport Category 0 is not treated like Category 4. Category 4 contributes zero to the sum; a Category 0 entry means the quantity exemption is not available for that load. Showing “0 points” for Category 0 would create a dangerously reassuring result, so the calculator stops and explains the block.

Why tank and bulk carriage are blocked

The calculator also refuses to apply the package calculation to tank or bulk carriage. This is a scope check, not a missing feature. A small number generated from the wrong carriage mode would be less useful than a clear refusal.

What you must know before entering data

The tool does not decide which transport category a substance belongs to. It also cannot establish the correct quantity, units, packaging status or whether another exemption or restriction changes the position. Those inputs must come from the transport information and the people responsible for the consignment.
