What is the Class 3: Flammable Liquids module?

ADR Class 3 covers flammable liquids, but the immediate fire hazard usually comes from vapour mixing with air rather than the liquid surface itself. The module therefore concentrates on volatility, flashpoint, auto-ignition temperature and flammability limits. Vapours may be colourless, travel away from the spill and collect in low areas, creating fire, explosion or asphyxiation risks at a distance from the original leak.

Drivers also need to recognise labels and subsidiary hazards, keep ignition sources away, maintain containment and understand whether a liquid mixes with water.
